May I reprint this brother's post on African Americans and African Dual citizenship for "blacks"
[NOTE: Before going any further into this interesting message, I must admit that I'm open to comments about the validity of all this ... at the end, they ask for a very small donation, but they don't say where it's going to...That said, please continue.]
When you've finished reading this, there are two things you should do. First, tell every black man, woman and child you know and love about this. Mainstream American media have so far ignored this news. Second, sign the petition (link for petition here: thiscause.org/p/menu.php
It only takes ten seconds, is secure and private, and it is just that important! And now... Not sure if you knew this, but the African Union--the African version of the European Union--has made a monumental decision and has decided to offer full dual citizenship to Black Americans in participating African countries of the African Union. Their aim, say union leaders, is to "tap into the technological expertise and education of Black Americans" to help solve the most daunting challenges facing Black Africa today. On the flip side, Black Americans will gain a long overdue true, legal connection to the African continent and their ancestral roots.
Besides reconnecting to long severed genealogy, African Americans will gain a number of fringe benefits by seeking dual citizenship. Among other things, this will include the right to buy and sell land, the right to own and operate businesses, and the opportunity to take part
in the political and legal processes of their second nation.
As exciting as this may be, members of the AU who are drafting this proposal have been defining and redefining the language of the proposal for over four long years. In 2008, at the annual Leon H. Sullivan, Union leaders plan to unveil their first tentative plan that will
define their vision of the dual citizenship proposal.
There is an online petition at: thiscause.org/p/menu.php that will
be printed and mailed in bulk by the thousands to the African Union before the summit in 2008. Show your support of the dual citizenship proposal to give African Americans dual citizenship in African Countries. Convince the African Union leaders that Black America wants
dual citizenship in Africa and that it is time for the proposal to be turned into law. And let the resurrection of the great continent of
Africa Begin.
This is 400 years in the making, people. Black Americans have been suffering the psychological brain damage of severed ancestral ties to
their true African roots for far too long. At the same time, much of Africa has been suffering from the deadly virus of colonization,
poverty, and disease for longer than necessary. It is time we showed support for our once ancestral continent.

Thu, December 7, 2006 - 7:10 AMI'm not sure what the use is in gaining citizenship in a third world country that i don't speak the language in, and have no traceable famil ties to or business interest in. -

Re: African Union and Dual citizenship for African Americans
Thu, December 7, 2006 - 10:08 AMI see it as an opportunity for those of us within the Diaspora to reconnect. We can learn the language(s), develop business interests and relationships, and create family ties.
I was raised with a perception (in the 1950s) that Africa was nothing but a jungle full of animals and savages. In that jungle the Lion was the king of the beasts and all the savage tribesmen were subject to the power of either Bwana (the Great White Hunter) or a nearly naked white man who swung from a vine, fought lions and crocodiles with a knife, and could beat an entire tribe of African Men in single combat.
During this same period (and subsequent to it) our African cousins were raised to believe that we Blacks here in the West were lazy and shiftless ex-slaves who were somehow inferior to them. Just like we were kept ignorant of their accomplishments and nation building, they were kept ignorant of our ability to integrate into western society and compete on an equal footing with white men.
Since our perceptions of each other have changed; it seems like this is a wonderful opportunity for Africans on both sides of the Atlantic to pursue our common destinies and explore the benefits of true Pan-Africanism. -

Re: African Union and Dual citizenship for African Americans
Wed, January 31, 2007 - 10:35 AMNOT TRUE!!! I have traveled through out Africa, and South America. There are many countries that will no allow you to do business unless you are a citizen or is in partnership with a citizen of that country. In the United States any one can open a business who has a social security number.. which means you have to be here legally... and that is difficult.. As far as you other post.. There will be those that feel they do not want to be apart of Africa.. that is your choice.. but that option should be there.. it is our brith right.. wether we like it or not we have African blood running through our veins... as Malcolm-X said.. the roots of the tree is the same as the tree. -

Re: African Union and Dual citizenship for African Americans
Thu, February 1, 2007 - 8:40 PMI didn't say i was against others doing so, just that i didn't have a use for it. Honestly any country that restricts its business to citizens probably has enough other restrictions on human freedom that i don't want to live there anyway. Hell, i have a very good friend who lives in South Africa and i'd no sooner live their than live in Chechnya. -

Re: African Union and Dual citizenship for African Americans
Tue, November 11, 2008 - 9:29 AMMike......................Who do you work for? You don't sound like you should be on this post unless you have a specific reason. There is only advantages of gaining citizenship to another country or union- its called multiple citizenship so you have no basis to make this sound negative. only good can come out of this, and this is your roots. You are Black for a reason. You wouldn't born accidentally black (that's if you really are black.) -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: African Union and Dual citizenship for African Americans
Sat, February 7, 2009 - 10:48 PMAgain. South Africa, Zimbabwe are not places i want to live or do business. SA has the highest murder rate of any nation not at war. Zim has abandoned their own currency and is using foreign currency because inflation was so bad. Congo, Sudan, have had so much strife they have huge numbers of refugees.
I work for myself. And yes, I am black. Are we really gonna resort to a brown paper bag test?
Knock yourself out if this is what you want, but these are the type of governments where they _will_ nationalize anything they want and leave you with nothing.

Re: African Union and Dual citizenship for African Americans
Sat, December 23, 2006 - 3:44 PMMike,
It is of great use!! You create the history. Not the other way around. Don't let the history control your actions.
That is a prime opportunity for you to go over there and help others that perhaps speak your language as well. Or direct someone here in america to the opportunities over there. You be the change you want to see in the world.
I am so happy about this. I am bursting!!

Re: African Union and Dual citizenship for African Americans
Fri, December 8, 2006 - 11:43 AMI think this is great AA can make some really good money doing business in Africa. We don't get as much support here when we try to open certain types of businesshere maybe we will get more support there. I listen to LIBradio.com frequently and they always have high ranking figures asking us to come back and do business with them. They even have a weekly segment on doing business in Ghana. There are also about 3 groups out there that are giving away free land to AA from Ghana this is one of them www.2020group.net/ I've been hearing about this for a while now. All you pay is $395 a year for land taxes and you have up to 3 years to build a home on the land that you can use as a bed and breakfast and rent through out the year.

Re: African Union and Dual citizenship for African Americans
Fri, December 22, 2006 - 6:49 PMFirst of all, thank you for spreading the message about the petition
I am Vitorrio Brooks, the founder and creator of this petition. And I just wanted to make a correction to something you posted in your email. Not I, nor anyone involved with the petition, is asking for a donation. Our petition is generously hostead by a service called "This Cause.org" The owners of "thiscause.org" allow people to create petitions online that can be watermarked for authenticity and signed with a computer mouse. It is great technology. More importantly, they allow us to do all this and more at no charge whatsoever. They, the owners of the site where my petition is hosted, absorb all the cost of hosting all these petitions. When you sign my petition, just before you click submit, a page pops up that ask for a donation. But it is not us, the authors of the petition, that are asking for a donation, it is the owners of "thiscuse.org" who are asking for a donation. Again, we do not, have not, will not, and are not asking anyone for a donation. It is simply the owners of the website, where are petition is stored, that is asking for a donation. And they are asking for a donation so that they can continue to do the good work of allowing people to host their petition on their site for free.
Anyway, nice to see so much discussion. I think i will repost to some other comments as well, and perhaps straighten out a few facts, too:)\
Peace, and always much love
Vito
